Sport Climbing In Sicily with The Mix Skin Oil
The Insect Solutions team and The Mix Skin Oil have just ben on a trip to Sicily, to Macari near San Vito Lo Capo. The sport climbing here was great and we used The Mix Skin Oil to keep off the odd mosquito and wasp that was lurking around waiting to cause trouble.
SW facing crags, 30metres high 2km from Macari, and 150m from the sea meant great climbing on excellent and varied limestone. The crag sports grades from 4's upto 8a but the majority of routes are in the 5+ to 6c range.
We stayed in a gret apartment in Macari that we found on Homelidays.com, and the owners were really friendly and helpful too. It was only an hour from the airport at Palermo. The whole San Vito peninsula is a beautiful place, with lots to do besides climbing. The beaches and sea look geat plus good walking to be had , and interestng towns nearby.
The Mix Skin Oil kept the mosquitos away too, as although there arent many around,the ones hat are about are pretty voracious. I am sure that rubbing it on our hands after climbing helped to fix our tired skin, as the rock was rough so our skin suffered. It certainly helped the skin stay supple and less likely to be damaged it seems.
All in All a great place to visit and lots and lots of potential for more sport routes, big and small. We climbed on an area only about 1/8 of the length of the cliff in a 2 week period so if you want to do new routes too, bring a bolt drill and resin bolts along. There is lots to do....
