Insect Bloc Story
I was experimenting with natural insect repellent products 12 years ago in Ecuador, as I don’t like Deet based repellents, especially as I spend a lot of time with repellent on my skin working in mosquito and insect riddled parts of the planet.
I clearly remember a day when I became aware that I was onto a good recipe, when I spent 2 days with a work group wading through swampy Amazon jungle, up to my chest in water and thrashing through tangled tree roots. At the end of the day I was free of leeches and mosquito bites, whilst many of the guys with me were having to remove leeches with cigarette ends, and scratching their mosquito bites.
Another time, I was working in a clearing temperature about 40 °C humidity 80%, and being swarmed by Sweat bees, which were covering everyone and everything, except me and my skin, and I remember being stunned, and relieved as I hate buzzy things moidering me.
More recently Helen and I were Mountain biking in the famous 7 Staines in Southern Scotland with The Mix, in full midge season, in shorts and t-shirts. We were basking in midge-freeness, when we found fellow cyclists covered in bites and red blotches, itching, and reduced to wearing long sleeves, whilst we were totally free of midge problems. This was what made us think about sharing it and helping every body else to get off the menu.
